This section aims to assist in learning more about one of the responsibilities for NGOs in Special and General Consultative Status with ECOSOC ? the submission of Quadrennial Reports to the Council. Here you will find information regarding the structure and the content of such report; as well as information on when and how the report should be submitted. The last part explains what are the consequences for not submitting quadrennial reports.

1. What is a quadrennial report?
In order to monitor the progress made by NGOs in consultative status to the work of ECOSOC, NGOs are required to submit a report to the NGO Branch every four years. The report should include a brief description of the organization┐s activities, their contribution to the work of the United Nations, including the Millennium Development Goals and other internationally agreed commitments. The report must be completed in one of the working languages of the United Nations - English or French.

3. Consequences for nonsubmission of quadrennial reports
Submitting quadrennial reports is one of the main responsibilities of organizations in General or Special consultative status with ECOSOC. ECOSOC Resolution 2008/4 stresses this responsibility and outlines that a failure to timely submit a quadrennial report will lead to suspension and ultimately a permanent withdrawal of consultative status for the organization.
