The NGO Branch of DESA will notify NGOs regarding the deadline to submit a request for an oral statement. A draft agenda for the Council meeting will also be provided. However, please remember that the President of the Council defines the time arrangements of the meeting, so the NGO Branch cannot guarantee a definite spot for your organization¿s statement. The final decision on the presenters rests with the President of the Council. Your organization is encouraged to work together with other NGOs when requesting the opportunity to make an oral statement at ECOSOC. This may strengthen your ability and improve your chances of offering expert opinions to ECOSOC.
A total number of 44 NGOs were recommended to speak at the 2010 ECOSOC substantive session, High Level Segment, which took place in New York from 28 June¿ 2 July 2010.
Submissions of Oral Statements to ECOSOC subsidiary bodies
Presentations can be made directly to the subsidiary bodies of the Council (functional commissions). The commissions may consult with organizations in general and special consultative status either directly or through a committee established for the purpose. Such consultations may be arranged upon the request of the NGO.
Organizations on the roster may give statements if requested by the Secretary-General or ECOSOC and/or its subsidiary bodies.
For more information, please, check with the corresponding organizers of the events.
