Expert Group Meeting on Partnership Data for the SDGs

New York
01 March, 2017

The Partnership Data for SDGs (PD4SDGs) is a United Nations initiative, launched at the 2016 Partnership Exchange event during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, that seeks to bring together a range of stakeholders committed to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals in an open and transparent manner by improving the transparency of the work being carried out by multi-stakeholder partnerships and voluntary initiatives in their support to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The initiative has been developed by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the UN Global Compact and UN Office for Partnerships in response to United Nations Member States stressing the need to develop ways to improve transparency, accountability and the sharing of experiences of multi-stakeholder partnerships and on the review and monitoring of these partnerships.

The PD4SDGs seeks to bring greater transparency, coherence, impact, and comparability of the work carried out by multi-stakeholder partnerships and voluntary initiatives in their support of the SDGs, by establishing standardized framework for how information on voluntary commitments and partnerships should be published on websites and associated knowledge products. By providing a standardized framework for how such information should be published, the PD4SDGs initiative aims to bring greater transparency, coherence, impact, and comparability of the work carried out by multi-stakeholder partnerships and voluntary initiatives in their support of the SDGs.

In the United Nations, and indeed outside, there is a growing trend to gather and publish information on websites on voluntary commitments and partnerships in connection with different intergovernmental conferences and processes, often with varying degree of details of those published initiatives. It is against this background the Partnership Data for SDGs has been developed, and the expert group meeting is being convened.

The Expert Group meeting will invite a range of experts both within and outside the UN system who are working on the promotion of voluntary commitments and partnerships in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Partnership Data for SDGs initiative is open for all entities within the United Nations that engage with, and promote the work of, multi-stakeholder partnerships and voluntary commitments and initiatives.
