63rd Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Melbourne, Australia
30 August - 01 September, 2010

The premier DPI/NGO annual event ┐ the 63rd Annual United Nations Department of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organizations Conference ┐ will be held in Melbourne, Australia, from 30 August to 1 September 2010. Titled "Advance Global Health: Achieve the MDGs", it is the first time that Australia will host a United Nations event of this size. It is also only the third time that the UNDPI/NGO Conference has been held outside of United Nations Headquarters.

The focus this year is on global health, which aims at improving, and achieving equity in, health for all people worldwide. The Conference is, therefore, about worldwide improvement of health, reduction of disparities, and protection against global threats that disregard national borders. It will also involve many disciplines, within and beyond the health sciences, and will promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Health issues are also central to the Millennium Development Goals, which have been internationally accepted as the road map for development. Some of the key health issues addressed by the Millennium Development Goals include Goal 4 ┐ reducing child mortality; Goal 5 ┐ improving maternal health; and Goal 6 ┐ combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. It is against this backdrop that NGOs in Australia will tackle the issue of advancing global health, which they see as critical to achieving the MDGs.

The Conference will highlight effective ways in which civil society, in partnership with other actors, can contribute to fostering global health, not just managing diseases. Emphasis will be placed on the need for more integration of health programs, methods to generate better outcome data, cost effective delivery of health services, and will stress the need to address sustainability and prevention, in order to achieve equity in global health. We hope to attract a wide cross section of representatives of non-governmental organizations, academia, media, Member States and other significant stakeholders to the Conference in Melbourne.

Dear All,

We have received many queries regarding the issuance of confirmation letters for this and other events. Please note that these letters are automatically generated once a pre-registration is approved. Currently, to avoid unnecessary confusion, we have replaced the Red-Dot icon with its full meaning: "Not Approved" (in red lettering). The icon for approved pre-registration profiles remains the same: A Green Check Mark, with its respective link to a downloadable version of the confirmation letter next to it.

Our organization can boast of a lot of measures which were put in place before the UN Declaration in 2000 as far as health issues are concerned. In 1999 when most of the countries were deceived by a false sense of security concerning HIV/AIDS, we imported a health film to educate the west Africa sub-region, networking with the Institutional Care Division of the Ministry of Health in our country which yielded good and positive results.
The twin disease to Aids,TB had been attended to when we attended Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation sponsored seminar in the UK in 2007.

Union Syndicale des Agriculteurs (USA) realized that:
This Conference of 30 August to 1st September will highlight effective ways in which Farmers will be always in partnership with health institutions, cooperate with doctors. To maintain their environment clean, eating of quality food and drink potable water also contribute to the fostering global health, not just managing diseases like they use to do. Emphasis will be placed on how to build better tomorrow and concentrate on the local , national strategies and need for more integration of health programs, methods to generate better outcome data, cost effective delivery of health services for themselves, and will stress the need to address sustainability and prevention, in order to achieve equity in global health in the rural areas. We hope to meet a wide cross section of representatives of non-governmental organizations, academia, media, Member States and other significant stakeholders to the Conference in Melbourne to remove diseases in the West Africa countries.
