The General Assembly in its resolution A/RES/65/238, currently available as document A/65/L.50, decided that a high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases shall be held on 19 and 20 September 2011 in New York. The event shall address the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases worldwide, with a particular focus on developmental and other challenges and social and economic impacts, particularly for developing countries.

The resolution also requests the President of the General Assembly to organize an informal interactive hearing with non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, the private sector and academia to provide an input to the preparatory process for the high-level meeting.

Please, read the following instructions carefully:
Representatives from non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, the private sector and academia, including those organizations not accredited with the UN, who wish to attend the Informal Interactive Hearing on Non-communicable Diseases on 16 June 2011 and the subsequent High-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of Non-communicable Diseases on 19-20 Sept 2011, UNHQ, New York in New York, are invited to pre-register.

First-time users of this registration system will need to create a new profile by clicking here. Approval of this profile can take up to 48 hours.

Please note that for planning purposes, pre-registration to both these events is required and is being facilitated through a single process. Pre-registration, however, does not guarantee entry into either of the meetings - seating will be on a first come first serve basis.

Please also be advised that the United Nations will not be in a position to fund travel expenses or accommodation to the High-Level meeting or the Informal Interactive hearing.

Participants are responsible for visa and other necessary arrangements required for the entry in the country where the meeting takes place.
