The High-level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly will focus on accelerating progress towards the achievement of all the Millennium Development Goals by 2015, taking into account the progress made with regard to the internationally agreed development goals, through a comprehensive review of successes, best practices and lessons learned, obstacles and gaps, challenges and opportunities, leading to concrete strategies for action, and requests the Secretary-General to submit a comprehensive report in this regard in March 2010.
The High-level Plenary Meeting will consist of a total of six meetings, on the basis of two meetings a day, as follows:
Monday, 20 September 2010, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Tuesday, 21 September 2010, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Wednesday, 22 September 2010, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The podium in the General Assembly Hall will have three seats to accommodate the two Co-Chairpersons and the Secretary-General.
At the opening plenary meeting, on Monday morning, 20 September 2010, the initial speakers will be the two Co-Chairpersons, the Secretary-General, the head of the delegation of the host country of the Organization, the President of the Economic and Social Council, the President of the World Bank, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, as the Chair of the United Nations Development Group.
Participation by Non-Governmental Organizations, Civil Society and the Private Sector
As has been the case in previous high-level meetings of the General Assembly, due to increased security measures necessary to accommodate the meetings, access to the UN premises will be severely restricted for representatives of ECOSOC-accredited NGOs.
Participation as speakers:
As per
resolution 64/184, a small number of representatives of NGOs, CSOs and the private sector will be participating as speakers in the Round Tables. A
Task Force of civil society representatives is assisting the Office of the President of the General Assembly in the nomination process of these speakers.
Participation as observers:
Representatives of NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC can be issued a secondary pass with access to the fourth floor balcony viewing gallery in the General Assembly hall for the plenary sessions on 20, 21 and 22 September.

Participation as observers:
If you wish to attend as an observer, due to increased security messages necessary to accommodate the high-level meetings of the General Assembly, access to the UN premises will be severely restricted. You are encouraged to follow the proceedings on UN Webcast. Representatives of NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC can be issued a courtesy pass with access to the fourth floor balcony viewing gallery in the General Assembly hall for the plenary sessions on 20, 21 and 22 September.
- Passes are reserved for representatives of ECOSOC-accredited NGOs only.
- Secondary passes for these seats will be made available from the DESA NGO Branch from Thursday, 16 September, 9:00 am onwards.
- You must have a valid annual pass of an ECOSOC-accredited NGO and must present yourself in person.
One representative per organization will be issued.
- There will be no pre-registration for these observer seats. First come first served.
- Secondary passes must be used by the person applying and cannot be used by another representatives.

Is it possible to find out which organisations take part or attend the summit?
World Summit Youth Award (http://www.youthaward.org) is holding its Winners Events in New York City aside the UN Global Summit. We are promoting and showcasing young bring together the most committed and creative Young People from around the world using Internet and mobile to reach the Millennium Development Goals.
We are very interested in enabling our Winners a shared workshop or seminar with another participating NGO in order to give them the possibility to see how others are putting the MDGs into action!
