Mission statement:	The Centre for Environment and Development (CED) was established in 1993 as the successor of the Public Campaign on Environment and Development (1990) after the 1992 UNCED. CED was legally incorporated in 1998 as a non-profit making Non-Governmental Organization (new incorporation number GA46, old number NA702) to operate as a think-tank and concept builder, research & policy institute, watchdog group, and campaigner. Its main work areas revolve around the concept of "Creating a Better World" and it operates through the main thematic areas of Sustainable Development and Social Justice. Currently CED works on issues related to sustainable consumption & production, climate sustainability policy & partnerships, green economy and sustainable development governance, community empowerment & poverty eradication, consumer protection & social justice, and corporate sustainability & social responsibility, and other related issues. CED is based in Sri Lanka and works intensely in Asia. It also and networks intimately with other regions and is a regular contributor at leading international events and processes on sustainability and social justice (see http://centreforenvironmentdevelopment.blogspot.com/). Within the United Nations forums, CED has been a member of the CSD Roster since 1993 and has contributed to the UNCSD, WSSD, and UNCSD2012 preparatory process, as well as other UN events. CED is also accredited with the UNFCCC and has contributed to the climate sustainability process worldwide. In 2004-2005, CED teamed with UNEP for the project “SC.Asia” and formulated “The Asian Review in Sustainable Consumption” and was a co-author of the UNEP publication “Advancing Sustainable Consumption in Asia: A Guidance Manual”. CED is the initiator and moderator of the 'Climate Sustainability PLATFORM' (http://climatesustainabilityplatform.weebly.com/), which is an open global platform for climate lobbyists, sustainability influencers and concerned people from across the world. The 'Climate Sustainability PLATFORM' is an initiating partner of the Sustainable Development Governance Network. CED is also a lead partner of Global Sustainability Solutions (GLOSS) which is an international network facility of civil society organizations, research institutions and green enterprises (see www.glossolutions.com). CED has also been a Member of the National Advisory Committee on Climate Change (NACCC) in Sri Lanka.
