A mass casualty incident, the consequence of natural and unnatural disaster throws a country in a state of disorder and helplessness. When a country requires all the help possible, they need a most rapid emergency response and innumerable rescue teams. The severity of the impact is in direct correlation with the speed and organizational proficiency of the various response teams. ZAKA is an Israeli-based International Humanitarian Volunteer Organization whose mission is to assist countries in times of disaster. Established in 1995, ZAKA has been a leader in disaster management in Israel and around the world. Within a moments notice, ZAKA dispatches volunteer rescue teams comprised of paramedics and rescue professionals to terror and mass casualty incidents around the world. Since its establishment, ZAKA has been involved in an array of world events. ZAKA assisted in the rescue efforts after the Twin Tower attacks in New York; it was involved in rescue and identification efforts in the synagogue bombings in Istanbul and in the Mombassa terrorist attack. Subsequently ZAKA was part of the rescue team at the terrorist bombing in Sinai, Egypt, in the rescue efforts of the tsunami victims in South-East Asia, at the scene of the plane crashes in Phuket, Thailand and Namibia, at the multi targeted coordinated terror attack in Mumbai, the earthquake in Haiti and most recently the earthquake in Japan, amongst many others. ZAKA's objective is to provide emergency assistance to civilians in disaster, and as such, assists in: disaster scene management; mass evacuation; emergency first-aid treatment for the injured; rescue and recovery; victim identification and support to the bereaved. ZAKA helps civilians return to routine after disaster and at the same time provides all aspects of humanitarian assistance. ZAKA volunteers, highly trained teams of paramedics and rescue and recovery specialists, have accumulated vast knowledge and experience in a wide range of international disasters and can therefore provide invaluable assistance. ZAKA's uniqueness is its global disaster preparedness network. ZAKA has established unparalleled rescue units and operational bases in many countries worldwide, including England, USA, Mexico, Hong Kong SAR of China), Russia, Georgia, Belarus and France, amongst others. With regional bases all over the world, ZAKA has the ability to respond to a disaster in the shortest amount of time possible and is able to provide effective and professional assistance.
