Mission statement:	The nature of need Undeniably the modern world with its multidimensional surge forward in all areas of human endeavours constantly challenges our perception of life and seeks to redefine our understanding of human purpose by constantly broadening the scope of our existence. From medical advancement that challenge and redefine the conventional perceptions ranging from life and death, biological parenthood with its possible implications on things such as inheritance, consanguinity, maintenance, human identity and human animal relations etc to changes in social, political and economical systems testing the notions of cultures, the understanding of the world and the function of religion in the context of a global community which is bound together in this apparent movement towards its common goal of completion. Further questions arise from these changes and the growing human populace in terms of the rites of genders, environment and animals. The changes in modes of business and commerce that are at times altogether alien to what we have previously encountered, all serve to redefine our understanding of human life and interaction. The changes in specific areas of human life inevitably interact with each other and ultimately impact each other due to their common subject which is the human life and together contribute to an overall understanding of human existence. It is obvious that such an unstoppable progression requires an overall outlook which allows for growth. A philosophy that determines human beings as terrestrially bound would not allow for space exploration let us say nor may religious beliefs favouring a group above another allow for the global human community. On the other hand a philosophy allowing for growth outside an understanding of human purpose and the meaning of growth, although it may allow for growth in certain dimensions but may by the same token bring about its destruction. It is here that we arrive at a state of crises within the Muslim mind For whereas growth has become a reality from which there is no escape we are in search of faith based religious guidelines that would ensure progression without the dangers of falling into the pitfalls that result from it. The current Shia Islamic thought is largely confined to a legalistic understanding of life and life situations. What this means is that response to the above is provided for from a legalistic perspective. This may sound perfectly acceptable but when considering that an overall understanding of life, direction and outlook is required primarily, we find that a legalistic perspective falls short of contributing in a way that is required. In addition a legalistic perspective due to not having a philosophical, theological and an ethical underlying base or a greater frame work falls short of even supplying with accurate legal response.
