Organizational structure: ALIVE is a community membership-based organization which works to bring the voice of the grassroots membership base to mainstream community governments, services and community institutions. ALIVE works under the direction of a board of directors elected from the membership base as well as an appointed Executive Director. ALIVE conducts projects through strategic partnerships with existing NGOs, community service providers, and local and provincial governments.
Number and type of members: ALIVE currently has over 600 voting Aboriginal members from across Canada. These members include Elders, youth and families. ALIVE also offers non-voting membership to non-Aboriginal peoples and organizations who agree to support and promote ALIVE's goals and strategic vision.

Purpose of the organization: ALIVE exists to promote, foster and develop the social, cultural, economic and physical well-being of urban Aboriginal peoples. ALIVE works through strategic partnerships with existing NGOs, service providers, mainstream community institutions and local and provincial governments to support the development of inclusive, integrated, holistic local service networks that reflect and respect the needs, cultures, aspirations and aptitudes of urban Aboriginal community members, and allow the meaningful participation of Aboriginal peoples as leaders and partners, not clients or patients.

Public Administration and Development Management

Involvement in Public Administration: ALIVE has acted as an advisor to Vancouver city council, the UAPAC (Urban Aboriginal Peoples Advisory Committee to the city of Vancouver), Vancouver Parks Board, and the Downtown Eastside and Urban Aboriginal committees in the Vancouver LAPP (Local Area Planning Process). ALIVE has also presented findings and recommendations to Assembly of First Nations task force on Indigenous Women.
