| Organizational structure: | NAME AND AREA OF OPERATION The name of this organization shall be the "ZO RE-UNIFICATION ORGANISATION" (here-in-after referred to as 'ZORO') and the area of operation shall cover all places where indigenous Zo people live. HEADQUARTERS The general headquarters of the ZORO shall presently be Aizawl. There shall be Zonal headquarters for each Zone and there shall be divisional headquarters for each division. ARTICLE-III-FLAG AND SYMBOL The official flag of ZORO shall be a red cross surrounded by 7 stars each having 7 tips on sky blue colour background, and the symbol of ZORO shall be shaking of hands ARTICLE-IV: MEMBERSHIP a) Any person belonging to the indigenous Zo ethnic group of people who accepts the aims and objects of ZORO is eligible for admission as a member of ZORO by paying a sum of 10/-. b) Any association or party by endorsing the aims and objects of ZORO may be eligible for admission as an affiliated member of ZORO by paying the affiliation fee of Rs. 100/-. ARTICLE-V NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE There shall be a National Executive Committee at the General Headquarters consisting of- i) President - 1 ii) Vice President, not more than - 5 iii) General Secretary, not more than - 5 vi) Secretary, not more than - 10 v) National Treasurer - 1 vi) Co-ordinator, not more than - 3 vii) Consultant, not more than - 3 viii) Executive Committee Members -24 Powers and Functions of the National Executive Committee (NEC): i) President: He shall preside over the meetings of Office bearers/National Executive Committee (NEC)/National Council/National Convention. All Office-bearers and other NEC members shall be appointed by the President with the advice of the elected Office Bearers of the National Executive Council. ii) Vice-President: He shall act as the President in the absence of the President as authorised by the President. iii) National Treasurer: He shall receive and have charge of all funds at the National headquarters and shall disburse the same as per direction of the National Executive Committee (or of the President in case of emergency). iv) General Secretary: He shall perform and discharge his/her assigned duties as per direction of the President. v) Secretary: He shall perform his/her duties as per direction of the President on the advice of the concerned General Secretary. vi) The National Executive Committee shall be the executive head at the national level. All decisions taken at the NEC level shall be executed by the office-bearers who are responsible to the NEC. The National Executive Committee shall have the power to suspend any ZORO official or member on merit of the case. vii) The Co-ordinator shall co-ordinate the activities of ZORO as per individual assignment given by the President from time to time. viii) The Consultant shall act as advisers to ZORO in all policy and administrative matters. ARTICLE-VI ADMINISTRATIVE ZONES There shall presently be 5 Zones, namely - Central Zone Northern Zone Southern Zone Western Zone Eastern Zone And the Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) shall consist the followings- i) President - 1 ii) Vice President, not more than - 3 iii) Secretary, not more than - 3 iv) Asst. Secretary, not more than - 5 v) Treasurer, not more than - 1 vi)Financial Secretary - 1 vii)Adviser - 2 viii)Executive Committee Members -12 ARTICLE-VII DIVISIONS There shall be Administrative Divisional headquarters as may be decided by the National Executive Committee from time to time. |

| If yes, explain in detail: | We are dissiminating the SDGs to our people.Because we are scattered across three different countries,we suffered persecution in our respective locations,and our indigenous rights are being violated.Consequently,to ensure that indigenous peoples are aware of their rights and to uphold human rights,we participate in and submit our grievances to session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples(EMRIP)and the United Nation's Permanaent Forum on Indigenous Issue(UNPFII).Additionally,we provide education and awareness training to indigenous peopless who are currently facing persecution, |

| Publications: | The Zo-unification Organization(ZORO)raises public awareness about the rights of the Zo people and the provision granted under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous people(UNDRIP).ZORO closely monitors and researches the United Nations initiatives and the global stats of indigenous people.Vital information derived from these studies is compiled into pamphlets and distributed to ensure the public remains well-informed. Furthermore, the organization, utilized various social media platformes to disseminate writings that emphasized the importance and value of ethnic reunification.Its activities and major events are also frequently highlighted in national and television news broadcasts. To further empower thw community,ZORO has introduced Zo Indigenous Identity Cards to help indigenous prople affirm their identity and understand its significance. |

16th Session of United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues UN Headquarters, New York, 24 April - 04 May 2017 To be delivered by LALRUATKIMA, Zo Re-Unification Organisation (ZORO) on 4th May 2017 from 10:00 AM to 1:00PM Agenda Item 9: 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Madam Chairperson, distinguished states delegates, UN Agencies, honorable indigenous sisters and brothers. Greetings to you and all members of this august forum from Zo indigenous people in South and South East Asia. 2. Zo country inhabited by Zo indigenous nation in the North East India, Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh, Arakan and Chin Hills of Myanmar were mostly virgin forests. The whole area covering 91000 square miles approximately are mountainous with elevation ranging from 100 to 3000 meters above mean sea level. The country is endowed with abundant monsoon rainfall which feeds numerous perennial, rivers flowing in between the mountain ranges. The rich country is permanent home of varieties of flora and fauna. 3. The pace of unsustainable developments under the governments of respective states and climate change accelerated deforestation and forest fragmentation. Shifting cultivation on the hills promotes erosion of top soil and forest fire resulting in further degradation of forest and vegetation. The traditional practice of shifting jhum cultivation need be replaced by contour farming system of making terrace and non-conventional irrigation through rain water harvesting. Regulated farming in the valleys and the foot hills leaving the remaining upper hill slopes can be restored as forest. The utilization of Mountain sides in the upper slopes for forest and the lower reaches for farming will usher in a dual improved system for reforestation as well as traditional farming will deliver more production ensuring food security and conservation of the environment. 4. Poverty prevails in Zo country. The capital cost of changing to permanent terrace cultivation is high and is beyond our financial capacity of ZORO. It will be the over all interest of the UN Agencies and international community to render assistance to Zo indigenous communities in their fight for survival for sustainable development. Attached herewith is Concept of Planting Million Trees in Zoram. As such, we urge states where Zo people lives to: - Ø Stop destroying our forests and stop planting commercial trees; Ø Provide proactive measures to enable Zo indigenous people access to international funding agencies; Ø Provide immediate remedy and justice to violations to our rights to lands and territories. We, the Zo people also urge UN Agencies, media and international partners to: Ø Provide immediate remedy and justice to violations to our rights to lands and territories, Ø Monitor with us the progress and gaps of the member states in ensuring our issues and concerns are addressed properly and effectively and in particular use of our lands and territories. ZORO hope and pray that we are not left behind in the implementation of SDGs and take part in the achievement of Goals by 2030. Thank you |
