Mission statement:	The International Emergency Management Organization,(IEMO) intergovernmental organization established 14 April 2006, is mandated to work for emergency prevention, preparedness, mitigation and recovery has the following legal framework: the Constitution of the Organization has been provided through the Intergovernmental Convention of 14 April 2006, registered pursuant to Article 102 of the UN Charter with the United Nations Secretariat at N. I-42766 of the United Nations Treaty Series (UNTS), while the Statutes ruling the Organization have been provided through Additional Protocol to said Convention. Publications have been performed in UNTS Volume 2731 and on the Statement of Treaties and International Agreements registered or filed and Recorded with the Secretariat of the United Nations N. ST/LEG/SER.A./712 of Month of June 2006, as well as on the UN Treaty Series Cumulative Index No.44 (Volumes 2351 to 2400- I. Treaties Nos.42198 to 43348 (registered) - II. Treaties Nos. 1285 to 1298 (Filed and Recorded) –copies in annex. The IEMO Organization is a formal Participant to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) with Registration No. 11929 of 22 June 2010 and is registered at no. C-J0824 in the Yearbook of International Organization, an initiative in formal relations with UNESCO. As a consequence of its specific mandate the IEMO also acts under the Provisions of Article 64(2) of Protocol I, additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, as relevant Civil Defence Organization to promote the diffusion of the “culture of prevention” The Organization operates inter alia on the basis and responding to the following ECOSOC Resolutions: 2006/5 and 2007/3, emphasizing the need for <> as well as in response to ECOSOC Decisions calling upon <> and similarly according to United Nations General Assembly Resolutions focused on emergency preparedness and disaster reduction: A/RES/46/182, A/RES/55/163, A/RES/61/134, A/RES/62/192, A/RES/63/216, A/RES/63/217, A/RES/63/137 and A/RES/64/200, underlining an appeal to Intergovernmental Organizations on act in the field of emergency management in support of the UN System.One of the main goals of the Organization is the mobilization of under-mobilized resources in support to the United Nations System, by responding to the aforesaid Resolutions and Decisions, by connecting left over emergency-related entities through the Global Prevention Network (GPN) composed so far of a specific network of institutions and based on the statistical support of the IEPS (Integrated Emergency Prevention System), an advanced statistical device aimed to evaluate in integrated way, both natural, manmade and complex emergency risk assessment and on which the United Nations shall surely count, to attain the goals of the aforesaid ECOSOC Decisions As far as the diffusion of the culture of prevention and the sensitisation to the assistance of neglected emergencies is concerned (to avoid duplications in emergency aid and to prevent the evolution of insurgent urgencies into larger emergencies) the Organization enjoys the Patronage of the Presidency of the European Parliament and of Governmental Authorities and competent Ministries of numerous Countries

Organizational structure:	Presidency General Council Directional Secretariat Departments (5) Commissions EXPLANATION The Organization, consists in the following structure: Council: according to the IEMO constitution, the Council, major body of the organization is composed of the voting Representatives as well as of observers and decides at simple majority (one vote for each voting State). Each state designates a Representative within the Council, charged to follow the activities of the Organization, while International Organizations may participate to the Council with capacity of observer. The Council summons in ordinary session once a year, normally parallel to the International Conference on Emergency Prevention, convened annually by the Organization. Secretariat : the Directional Secretariat, executive organ of the organization is in charge for the operational activity as well as ensures the keeping of the records and of the proceedings of the Council and the fulfilment of the secretarial duties in favour of the Council and includes the Office of the President, principal officer, the Office of the Inspector-General, in charge of internal affairs, as well as Departments (5) and Commissions Commissions: are appointed by the Secretariat to perform duties relevant to the attainment of specific technical and institutional organizational tasks as the Commission on Emergency categorization, Commission on Early Warning Systems, Commission on relations with NGOs and Commission on the Global Prevention Network
Number and type of members:	Founding Members of the Organization are: Benin, Burundi, Guinea, Lebanon, Madagascar, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Somalia, while Affiliated to the Organization and therefore represented by the respective National Emergency Management Agencies (NEMAs) are: Algeria, Colombia, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Kenya, Macedonia, Malawi, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Samoa, South Africa and Zambia. The Organization is self funding through specific Programs, and through voluntary donations and grants.
