Organizational structure: Vital Voices Global Partnership, also known as Vital Voices, is an international non-profit that identifies, trains, and empowers emerging women leaders and social entrepreneurs around the globe who focus on making progress in the areas of human rights, political participation and economic empowerment. Vital Voices addresses issues like violence against women, human trafficking, the political underrepresentation of women, and barriers to women’s entrepreneurship and economic development. Its programs put into practice a recognition that investment in women and girls is directly linked to poverty alleviation, a lessening of government corruption, and greater general prosperity. Vital Voices works to advance women's economic, political and social status by providing tools and training to develop their skills, connecting them to a broad global network of women with common values and potential, and offering other support as needed to women globally. Whether promoting women’s entrepreneurship in the Middle East through their Businesswomen’s Network, shining light on human trafficking and the work being done by women such as Somaly Mam of Cambodia to combat it, or supporting the efforts of women’s rights advocates such as Chouchou Namegabe of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Vital Voices actively supports women leaders around the world. Vital Voices works regionally in: Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East and North Africa. Vital Voices leverages the power of its global network to further identify and train emerging women leaders who are committed to improving their communities. Vital Voices has an international staff and a team of over 1,000 partners, pro bono experts and leaders, including senior government, corporate and non-governmental organization executives, have trained and mentored more than 7,000 emerging women leaders from over 127 countries since 1997. These women have returned home to train and mentor more than 200,000 additional women and girls in their communities. Since 2002, Vital Voices has held its annual Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards. Widely acclaimed, this event has raised global awareness for extraordinary women leaders like Burmese democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi. Vital Voices’ Board of Directors includes distinguished women such as fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, World Bank Managing Director Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and actress Sally Field.
