Mission statement:	LIGHT FOR THE WORLD supports efforts aimed at breaking the vicious cycle of poverty, illness and impairment. LIGHT FOR THE WORLD provides health services and medical treatment, particularly for eye diseases but also habilitation and rehabilitation services for other impairments. LIGHT FOR THE WORLD also advocates for the implementation of the rights of persons with disabilities aimed at ensuring the participation of persons with disabilities in all areas of life, including economic empowerment, access to health care as well as social and cultural activities and educational opportunities. Therefore, LIGHT FOR THE WORLD supports sustainable programs and projects of local partner organizations in the following areas: – Prevention and cure of blindness: medical services and treatment of eye diseases, promotion of persons with low vision, refraction – Rehabilitation and habilitation of persons with disabilities: community based rehabilitation, formal and non-formal inclusive education, integrated teaching, vocational training, economic empowerment – Prevention and cure of other impairments, where feasible/appropriate: medical treatment of hearing impairments, impairments of mobility, etc. – Primary health care to prevent disability/impairment and (re)habilitation of persons with disabilities: avoidance of vitamin-A-deficiency, improvement of hygiene, provision of immunization, etc. – Advocacy for the rights of persons with disabilities: stewardship in European and other international fora as well as in our partner countries, support and promotion of disabled people’s organizations, promotion of a human rights-based approach to development – Capacity building for local project partners: training of local experts, expert counseling, organizational development, etc.
