Mission statement:	The vision of the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Women’s Legal and Advocacy Service is to respect and strengthen traditional women’s law, to empower indigenous women to confidently assert their rights and to strive to ensure that they have effective and equitable access to culturally appropriate justice services. We provide legal and other assistance by way of information, legal advice, community education and law reform activities in relation to issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. We focus on promoting women’s and children’s safety and wellbeing through the use of legal rights in relation to families, domestic violence, victims of crime, child welfare and conflict resolution. We engage in national advocacy on Indigenous women’s legal rights through our membership of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Network within the National Association of Community Legal Centres.
