Mission statement:	The United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNA-Nigeria) was established as a body dedicated to the promotion at grassroots levels, the goals of the United Nations (UN) – Maintenance of international peace, Security and Development. UNA-Nigeria has worked assiduously since its establishment to mobilize Nigerians in support of UN activities over the years. The aims of the Association are: (a) To promote the ideals of the UN particularly to: - Encourage mutual understanding, solidarity and spirit of tolerance among all people of the World - Contribute to the removal of obstacles to peace, injustice and to work for the promotion of security, disarmament and development of peaceful coexistence among the nations (b) To disseminate news and information about the United Nations among grassroots people (c) To consult regularly with government on matters of maintaining peace, promoting education, health, etc. The objectives of the Association are: (a) To support fully the purposes and principles of the United Nations as expressed in its charter. (b) To educate its members and others about the United Nations and its specialized Agencies. (c) To promote national and international peace, stability, understanding, solidarity and cooperation among people throughout the world without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion. (d) To strive for the recognition of the respect for human rights and fundamental freedom throughout the world, and for the recognition of the responsibilities and duties which those rights involve for individuals and communities, and for the improvement of economic and social conditions. (e) To contribute to the removal of obstacles to peace, to work for justice, security and to promote the development of peaceful co-operation among nations. (f) To promote research, information and education about the principles, activities and potentialities of the United Nations and to help shape its agenda and mandate. (g) To provide a platform for people’s engagement in the United Nations activities and processes. (h) To implement projects in furtherance of goals and development targets of the United Nations and those of the United Nations Association of Nigeria. (i) To collaborate actively with the United Nations agencies particularly the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in disseminating news and information with other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) promoting the cause of the United Nations. The purpose for which the Association is established is as follows: (a) To take such steps by personal or written appeals, public meetings or otherwise, as may from time to time be deemed expedient for the purpose of procuring contributions to the funds of the Association in the shape of donations, annual subscriptions or otherwise; (b) To encourage donations for democratic, charitable and community purposes; (c) To share and distribute information in cooperation with other United Nations (UN) centres whenever possible about the programs, functions and activities of the United Nations Association of Nigeria, (d) To mobilise public support for and popular participation in those UN programs in which citizens are expected to play a role; (e) To publicise the numerous UN and UNA-Nigeria success stories - giving evidence that we all ultimately benefit from such UN and UNA-Nigeria programs; (f) To consult regularly with the government on matters of maintaining peace, promoting education, health, etc.; (g) To work in cooperation with the Government and other relevant organizations’ and associations to develop educative programs to assist students and community members from all cultural backgrounds in Nigeria to appreciate, understand and adopt the principles of citizenship, cross-cultural harmony and rights that are subscribed to by their governments and official community leaders in agreement with those articled in the Charter of the United Nations.

Organizational structure:	Non-Governmental Organisation Founded by Late Professor Babatunde Fafunwa. UNA-Nigeria is a member of the Geneva based World Federation of the United Nations Associations (WFUNA) which was established close on the heels of formation of the UN in 1945 as a global organization with the primary mission of mobilizing and promoting wider support for UN goals. All Member states of the United Nations have such an NGO. UNAN formally registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in August of 2018 and has Eight (8) prominent Nigerians as Trustees of the Association. Number and type of members:	178 members whose expertise cut across diverse sectors. UNA-Nigeria draws its membership from the general public, youth, women in groups, top Nigerian Diplomats, Professionals and others who share the vision of the promoting public understanding of the role of the UN in shaping international relations and maintenance of international peace and security as well as development particularly in the developing world.
