NUSOJ was founded and is governed by member journalists. General Assembly (GA) is the supreme body of NUSOJ which meets once in every 3 years and has 66 Delegates-from all six regional branches. The General Assembly elects members of the Supreme Council and Executive Committee for a mandate of 3 years. The Supreme Council meets two times a year and consists of Presidium of President and 3 Deputy Presidents, 6 heads of Regional Branches and 9 Executive Committee Members. Supreme Council is responsible for the general policies between General Assemblies. Executive Committee, which consists of Secretary General and 8 Secretaries, is in charge for the day to day administration of the union. |

NUSOJ represents over 600 of Somalia’s nearly 1000 journalists, who established or joined the union in order to uphold and defend their interests, needs and rights cooperatively and deal with employers, authorities and other sectors in the society collectively. Member journalists work across the whole industry as reporters, editors and sub-editors and photographers. Members work in broadcasting, newspapers, magazines, and in the new media (news websites). NUSOJ is a fervent champion for media freedom, the rights of journalists, workers’ rights and for social justice in Somalia. |
