Purpose of the organization: The main objective of EASPD is to promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities through effective and high quality service systems, based on the principles of the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Main topic of our policy and advocacy work, as well all our initiatives- conferences, seminars, international projects, is the realisation of full inclusion of persons with a disability in society through processes of Deinstitutionalisation, development of community-based support models, the promotion of inclusive education and employment on the open labour market. The correct implementation of the UNCRPD art.19, art.24, art.26, and art.27 is the core of EASPD’s work. OUR VISION We strive to deliver high-quality services promoting the full participation and inclusion of all disabled persons in society. We believe that quality support services play a key role in enabling people to enjoy their human rights on an equal basis, beyond disability or any other factor. It is precisely this belief that guides our work in Brussels, Strasbourg and throughout Europe. OUR PRINCIPLES We are committed to operating on the principles of openness, participation, accountability, effectiveness, and coherence. As such, our work is guided by the following: ¿ User participation in the development and delivery of services ¿ The implementation of good governance principles ¿ A focus on the Accessibility, Availability, Affordability and Adaptability of services OUR OBJECTIVES We want a Social Europe for all –including people with disabilities- that provides guaranteed universal access to high-quality services for those in need. As such, we work towards ensuring: ¿ The full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities ¿ The provision of high quality, user-centred services run in an accountable, efficient and effective way ¿ Fair working conditions and lifelong learning opportunities for staff employed in services.
Description of the membership of the organization, indicating the total number of members: EASPD is represents over 10 000 service providers for persons with disabilities from across Europe and across disability. EASPD has 120 direct members from 33 countries. The association’s membership is composed by Umbrella Members Organisations (UMO), Single Agency Organisations (SAMO) and Observers.
