Purpose of the organization: |
G3ict was initiated as an advocacy initiative in December 2006 under the auspices of the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID) and in cooperation with the Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities. Its mission is to facilitate the implementation of the disposition of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on accessible and assistive ICTs by fostering a global dialogue on ICT accessibility among all multi- stakeholders involved (Governments, ICT vendors, NGOs representing persons with disabilities, international development organizations, standards organizations, academia, large users of ICTs from both the private and public sectors). G3ict was incorporated in 2008 as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation in the State of Georgia, United States, where it maintains an office in Atlanta. The four initial objectives set by the December 4, 2006 G3ict inaugural Steering Committee include: 1. Support policy makers in matters of legislation and regulations on ICT accessibility 2. Help raise the awareness of issues related to ICT accessibility and the potential of assistive technologies 3. Explore areas of opportunities with industry, the public sector and civil society for the advancement of new ICT solutions for persons living with disabilities 4. Promote the standardization and harmonization programs related to ICT accessibility and assistive technologies currently led by multiple organizations around the world |
