FLNKCA represent Lezghin people in Dagestan (250,000), Russia and Azerbaijan (300,000). Their situation particulaly in Azerbaijan is very bad. They face violations of their economic, social and cultural rights, there are political prisoners of Lezghin ethnicity on Azerbaijan. They are divided by the Russian-Azeri border and their cultural and language communication is hindered by this fact. Tension is growing on the region and FLNKA is undertaking efforts to protect the rights of the Lezghin people in Azerbaijan and Dagestan. We have recently joined UNPO and in collaboration with them prepared an Alternative Report for the 50th session of the UN Committee on the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights fro the consideration of the Initial Report on Azerbaijan.
