Social Development

Purpose of the organization: "Social development" is the lifeline of Action for Pune Development and the entire organisation commits itself to it. The purpose of the organisation is to ensure maximum youth involvement in the development process by providing effective guidance and adequate opportunities.
Confirmation of the activities of the organization at the regional, national or international level: -In June 2012, a tree plantation drive was conducted as a first step for a sustainable greener environment and since the past six years the drive is conducted on 5th June every year. - A city-wide helmet awareness program was initiated along with the team of Pune traffic police to promote traffic safety, in July 2012. - A drive was conducted, in association with the Pune traffic police to control traffic and enforce traffic rules in the heavily crowded areas of the city. -A month-long computer training programme was conducted in the month of September to educate students about computers. A similar training programme was conducted for 600 girls in 2017. -“Trekolitic” was a cross country race organised in January 2013 to raise funds for UNICEF and create awareness about fitness among the youth. APD was successful in raising ₹20,000 for helping UNICEF in the regard of working for child welfare. -A self-defence training programme was arranged at a Girls School in Pune city, in June 2013, where girls were taught basic self-defence techniques by trained martial arts experts. -For minimising the use of plastic and thus promoting eco-friendliness, APD worked with students of numerous schools in Pune, to make paper bags. About 500 students participated in the activity and over 10000 paper bags were made, which were then distributed to various retail stores. -On the occasion of Youth Social Service Day in 2013, APD collaborated 10 schools in order to make the youth participate in community service. 1.25 tonnes of food grains were collected from over 23,000 students and the collected food grains were then distributed to old age homes and orphanages. -In May 2014, the President of the organisation, Aakash Shah, was given the post of the Global Youth Advocate for UN My World 2015 and World We Want Campaign by United Nations Millennium Campaign. The team of APD worked as ambassadors and reaching out to over half a million people with My World Survey, stood 3rd to reach maximum people across the world. -International Youth Social Service Day, was an initiative by APD supporting United Nations My World 2015, World We Want and I'm a City Changer Campaign. Over 50,000 youths from different parts of the world supported the cause of reaching out with the My World 2015 survey and also carrying out other community service activities. -In 2015, the President of APD, worked as global youth advocate for Save Kids Lives Campaign, Official Campaign for 3rd UN Global Road Safety Week. Under his guidance, the team managed to gather votes from 32,000 people for the Save Kids Lives Campaign and completed 1/4th of the global target. -In order to make children aware of road safety, a drawing competition was organised in association with "Safe Kids Foundation" and FedEx in Pune. It received a great response and APD continued to be the strongest supporter of the #SaveKidsLives campaign. -In September 2015, APD received a grant from UL (Underwriter's laboratories) and YSA (Youth Services America) under the Safer Roads, Safer India programme. "Parivartan 2016" was a road safety model making competition, organised under the programme in association with SPTM and Pune Traffic Police. The sole purpose of this competition was youth involvement in road safety and it was a platform for the youth to be heard by road safety authorities, in order to make necessary changes. -As a part of our latest development project, APD has undertaken the task of empowering hundreds of young enterprising girls of an orphanage. APD has been working towards their all-round personality development by improvising their public speaking skills, creativity, communication skills and academic performance. -Recently APD has taken up the project of building a database of blood donors, with the sole aspiration to reach thousands of people who are in urgent need of blood.
