Office of the Special Adviser on Africa
Purpose: To facilitate international information sharing and lobbying efforts among NGOs working on environment and development.
Illustrative Project: ELCI works closely with NGOs and other groups from developing countries. It has been instrumental in coordinating and building capacity of developing country NGOs in a number of international processes including those on desertification, biodiversity and forests. This network NGO has been active in the CSD and is a valuable partner of the CSD Secretariat in information dissemination and outreach. ECLI is currently running the project "Capacity Building Through Exchange" which focuses on setting up efficient information access and sharing among NGOs and community based organizations for the purpose of development.Publications Semi-annual Report to Donors and Partners - the report indicates that, among other things, ELCI has conducted research on Indigenous Indicators in Dryland Management, established electronic conferences on women and environment issues in Africa, and launched a study on the role of African NGOs in Agenda 21 implementation.
