Localizing the MDGs: The Role of Local Government and a Review of the Slums Target

Co-organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) this event will feature a panel of prominent speakers who will address the prospects, challenges and opportunities of accelerating and localizing MDG-achievement through local governments, with a particular focus on MDG 7, Target 11on slum prevention and improvement, followed by an open discussion. It will serve as an important step in the preparation of the ┐Global Forum on Local Development, Pursuing the MDGs through Local Government┐, co-arranged by UNCDF, UNDP and the Government of Uganda in Kampala on October 4 to 6, 2010. Furthermore, the discussion will help guide UN-HABITAT in addressing the challenges of Goal 7, Target 11 through its work on Land and Housing for All.
