Request to be heard at the 2017 Commission for Social Development (CSocD55)

The Division for Social Policy and Development (DSPD) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) is pleased to announce an open call for oral statements for the 2017 Commission for Social Development (CSocD55) for NGOs in ECOSOC consultative status.

Only NGOs in Consultative Status with ECOSOC can submit request for oral presentations to the CSocD55 to be held from 1 to 10 February 2017 at UN Headquarters in New York.The priority theme this year is: "Strategies for the eradication of poverty to achieve sustainable development for all" .

In accordance with ECOSOC resolution 1996/31, organizations in general and special consultative status are encouraged to make oral presentations to the Commission.

Instructions for submitting requests to make oral presentations:
Deadline for submission: 25 January 2017.
1. Please note that this is only a request to speak and not the submission of the oral presentation itself.
2. Presentations cannot exceed 3 minutes and should adhere to the topic of the priority theme of the Session and will be reviewed by the UN Secretariat before it is delivered;
3. Presentations must be delivered in one of the six official UN languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish;
4. The UN Secretariat will confirm receipt of the request;
5. Priority for inclusion of NGO presenters on the Speakers List will be given to NGOs speaking on behalf of a group, network or committee, and is dependent on the time available.
6. NGO Written Statements submitted should not be orally presented, as these documents are already provided to the Commission. Furthermore, such repetition would hinder other NGOs from having their views heard by the Commission.

Some suggestions when making oral presentations:
Organize your speech to highlight your key idea;
Strive for clarity and coherence;
Avoid repetitive or incomprehensible language;
Use simple sentence structure;
Avoid jargon;
Avoid being critical of a UN Member State or Government leader/s;
Do not make critical generalizations of a group or persons/countries/organizations;
Double check your facts;
Consult UN terminology http://unterm.un.org;
Avoid abbreviations and acronyms.

If you wish to request to be heard by the Commission, please click on the button "Fill out Form". Please note that this is only a request to speak and not the submission of the oral presentation itself.

Please note that there are no guarantees that you will be given the opportunity to speak during the Session.

Our Entity name has changed as we are now independent and have applied for consultative status.
How do we change bylaws of old group we were with before our promotion/upgrade?

How do we change our name on the registration?

How do we remove the other financial statement since it is not valid.
We need to update information on registration if at all possible. Tried calling for days.

Please assist.

Cordially,
