Expert group meeting on ôSustainable cities, human mobility and international migrationö

New York
07 - 08 September, 2017

The Population Division of DESA is organizing an expert group meeting on ôSustainable cities, human mobility and international migrationö at UN Headquarters from 7-8 September 2017. The meeting is held in preparation for the 51st session of the Commission on Population and Development in 2018 which will focus on the same topic. Urbanization and migration are profoundly important demographic phenomena that have significant development impacts at the global, regional, national and subnational levels, and are closely interconnected. Meeting participants will review new evidence and analyses regarding trends in urbanization and migration, examine their development impacts; and discuss implications on policy, governance and planning. The meeting will also contribute to discussions concerning the follow-up to the various pillars of the global development agenda (i.e., ICPD Programme of Action, 2030 Agenda, New York Declaration and New Urban Agenda).
