High-Level Symposium ôGlobal Energy Interconnection: Advancing the Sustainable Development Goalsö

New York
01 November, 2017

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has set out 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets, which jointly constitute a comprehensive plan of action to eradicate poverty and ensure sustainable development worldwide. SDG7 is a first-ever universal goal on energy, with five targets on access, efficiency, renewables and means of implementation. Global energy interconnection (GEI) promises to be a far-reaching accelerator of SDG7.

To explore how best to speed up the development of the GEI and promote the implementation of 2030 Agenda and SDGs, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organisation (GEIDCO) will jointly organize a High-level Symposium on 1 November 2017, from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm in ECOSOC Chamber. Programme of the Symposium is attached.

The discussion will focus on Ten Actions and Five Cooperation Mechanisms proposed in the an GEI Action Plan developed by GEIDCO, based on practical conditions of economic, social, energy and power development in different continents. The event aims to promote an enhanced understanding among participants on how to accelerate progress of implementation of SDGs, GEI Action Plan, relevant capability building and a roadmap for future development.
