National Confederation of Dalit Organisations (NACDOR) is working with a vision to build a Prabuddha Samaj (enlightened society) based on the principles of freedom, dignity, fraternity, justice, equality, ecological balance and active peace, where all have equal rights over resources and services of every kind, without any discrimination on the basis of caste, class, race, gender, age, religion, abilities, regions, language or property and human rights of all are equally respected and there is no place for exploitation or oppression. The mission of the National Confederation of Dalit Organisations (NACDOR) is to build a strong social movement of Dalits (most socially excluded) and other disadvantaged sections of India, which can re-structure the existing social-economic-political-social structures in line with the aspirations and dreams of Dalits and disadvantaged communities. NACDOR is the national platform of more than 1200 organisations of socially excluded and disadvantaged groups, led by the volunteers from these communities. Main purposes of the organisation are: 1. High light the issues of social exclusion faced by the Dalit community ( 180 million in India) 2. Ensure human rights, dignity and non-discriminatory access to resources, opportunities and entitlements for the Dalits and other socially excluded 3. Advocate for the rights and dignity of the socially excluded and disadvantaged groups 4. Lobby for allocation of resources in the country budgets and policy amendments improving the access to resources and entitlements 5. Mobilise, organise and capacitate grass root level community bacsed organisations of the socially excluded communities to create a demand for the achievement of MDGs for them 6. Strengthen linkages and common platforms at national and international levels to voice the concerns of the Dalits and their human rights 7. collaborate with the government and international agencies to achieve good education, health, means of livelihood and dignified life for the Dalits While working for the above mentioned purposes, the following may also be noted about the organisation and its representative : With its vision to build a Prabuddha Samaj, National Confederation of Dalit Organisations (NACDOR), since its inception in 2001, has been working on the objectives of the organisation. It has been successful in impacting Dalit discourse within and outside of the country. Some of its successes included observing the death anniversary of Savitri Bai Phule 10th March as the Bhartiya Mahila Divas (Indian Women Day). NACDOR initiated discussions on how and why civil society shall be taking up the ¿Budget and Development Planning¿ seriously to address the issues of multiple disadvantaged. NACDOR conceptualised and founded World Dignity Forum in 2004 during the World Social Forum held in Mumbai and organised several World Dignity Forums along with other organisations in World Social Forum in 2005 in Porto Alegre in Brazil, in 2006 in Karachi in Pakistan and 2007 in Nairobi in Kenya. Equally on programme side, NACDOR¿s innovations have impacted many Government programmes. In 2006, NACDOR organised a Rozgar Adhikar Yatra in Uttar Pradesh to make people aware of their right to guaranteed unskilled work for 100 days under the newly passed legislation National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). In year 2007, NACDOR in association with Centre for Alternative Dalit Media and Haryana Prathamic Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad of Government of Haryana and United Nations Millennium Campaign and organised Shiksha Adhikar Yatra to mainstream the Right to Education. More than 140,000 children were enrolled in the schools as a result of this campaign.
