Forest Management Major Groups
DESA?s United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) is a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with the main objective to promote the management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests and to strengthen long-term political commitment to this end. Following intense negotiations, the Seventh Session of the Forum adopted the landmark Non-Legally Binding Instrument on All Types of Forests on 28 April 2007. The instrument is considered a milestone, as it is the first time Member States have agreed to an international instrument for sustainable forest management.
UNFF is open to all States and operates in a transparent manner. The participation of a wide range of forest-related stakeholders in the Sessions of the Forum is considered a key component of sustainable management of forests and welcomes participants from the Forest Major Groups.
