Mission statement:
(1) DAWN is an international non-governmental and non-profit organization of women from countries in the economic South that: (a) was created to develop feminist frameworks for understanding the economic, social, cultural, and political processes which cause and erpetuate social inequalities and for advocating changes; (b) draws its strength from the progressive women’s movement, lived lives of women and intergenerational dialogues in the economic South; (c) analyses, through a gender perspective, development strategies and policies applied to countries in the economic South and their impact on women and other subordinated groups, in order to articulate a critique of development processes and promote alternatives; and (d) attempts to fulfill these objectives through research, analysis, training, activism, advocacy, networking, and communication activities, and any other activities as are conducive to the attainment of DAWN’s Vision and any of the General Purposes and Objectives. (2) As a non-profit organization with funding provided for educational and charitable purposes, no part of any such funds or of income derived therefrom or assets purchased therewith shall be distributed to or applied for the benefit of any individual or organization other than pursuant to the conduct of DAWN’s educational and charitable purposes, as payment of reasonable compensation for services rendered, as payment of the fair market value of property purchased by the organization, or in accordance with Section 16(4) hereof.
