Mission statement:	ISDR is working for the sustainable development. The ISDR,India is having the consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council ; UN-ECOSOC , United Nations World Conference on Disaster risk and Reductions , UN-WCDRR ,United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) , United Nations Finance for Development (UN-FfD) and United Nations Center for Human Settlement (UN- Habitat) . The areas of functioning are education, training research & development on Natural resources like soil, water, air, agriculture, forest; coastal and river management & its conservation, rural & urban planning, infrastructure development, energy and GHG issues, sanitation, Industrial development, socio-economic development, Gender issues, poverty alleviation, environment management, Climate Change, Global environmental changes , etc. ISDR facilitate Global initiatives such as agriculture development, environment conservation, water management, Income generation projects for youth ,women, education & training, and socio-economic development by mobilizing collective and participatory action towards self-reliance and sustainability. ISDR participates in capacity building programs organized by UN and other research institutions and then impart the acquired knowledge and skills to the local community and other NGOs and VOs. ISDR participated successfully in number of events organized by UN, EU and IGBP including WSSD and Istanbul+5 prepcom meetings from Asia & Pacific-Europe region. ISDR is working in collaboration with intercontinental organizations, international Universities and research institutions and grass root level organization for Sustainable Development with focus on socio-economic-cultural and human resources development through public participation and collaborative research to involve more stake holders' participation in the sustainable development process in different parts of the World. ISDR works with the community Groups, NGOs, VOs and International agencies for achievement of the aims of the ISDR as mentioned above. Established in 1992, . Over a period of time ISDR's message has reached several NGOs, research organizations, agencies and many individuals around the world. The institute facilitates local and regional initiatives on social-economic-environment and educational and cultural development through participation in programs on social and economical development in co-operations with global civil societies by mobilizing collective and participatory actions towards self reliance and sustainability. The institute participates in capacity building programs of UN and other intergovernmental and non governmental organization and imparts the skills and knowledge on global sustainable development through civil societies, NGOs in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa and America region and works with the international organizations in the field of Education, Training, Research on sustainable development .

Organizational structure:	Executive council ,meets quarterly consisting of 7 elected members for 5 years takes the decision in consultations with the General council, meets annually consisting all members of the organization . Secretary General deals with the administrative matters .
