Organizational structure: Oceana is governed by an international board of directors with 26 members bringing expertise in ocean conservation, policy and communications. We have branches in Chile, Peru, and the Philippines, while in the other countries we operate through affiliated entities with their own governing bodies. The board meets three times a year, in locations with Oceana offices and/or campaigns, providing board members with direct contact with the global operations and leadership. The board reviews financial and programmatic reports at every meeting, assessing progress against goals and the stewardship of organisation resources. In addition, the board reviews three-to-five-year goals for all campaigns annually and one-year milestones for the coming year. In addition, an Executive Committee of the board meets to address critical strategic and management issues. Formal officers of the board include Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, President and Treasurer. An Audit Committee oversees the annual conduct of an independent financial audit and review of internal controls. Oceana complies with all applicable United States federal laws and regulations, as well as applicable laws and regulations of the states and the local jurisdictions in which it is formed or operates. In addition, Oceana abides by applicable EU and international laws, regulations and conventions. Oceana has received 4-star Charity Navigator summary rating and a 4-star rating. We have qualified for a platinum rating from Candid (formerly known as Guidestar), demonstrating our commitment to transparency. We also are accredited with the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance standards.
