Currently a five-member Board of Directors governs the NGO. The Board gives policy direction and reviews the work of the organization. The Executive Director is a member of the Board. He has the mandate to propose programs and activities, as well as operational budgets to the Board, which examines the proposals, and give approval, or provide guidance for more effective implementation of the programs. Issues of management and internal controls are also examined by the Board.
The Executive Director is assisted by a Projects Coordinator. The existing Programs are run by Program Officers supported by other staff and interns. Four cross-cutting units – Human Resource Development and Management, Legal and Gender, Finance and Administration, and Monitoring and Advocacy are coordinated by Program Officers. Staff consists of full-time personnel on yearly contracts, interns and volunteers. Most are assigned to more than one coordinating function.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Currently financial management is overseen by the Projects Coordinator and a Project Officer for Finance and Administration, who is supported by a part-time Accounting Officer. The YECA has also contracted the services of an external auditor to audit our accounts and financial statements annually. Signatories to our Bank accounts include the Executive Director the Projects Coordinator.
DECISION-MAKING STUCTURE
The Board of Directors meets at least three times a year to give broad policy direction, review and approve programs and projects. It decides on the best options on adopted policies and methods of implementation of projects and programs for the Executive Director to execute.
The Chair of the Board is consulted on major administrative decisions and disbursements of funds.
Day to day activities and project implementation decisions are arrived at through consultation between the Executive Director and staff, interns and volunteers. Staff has access to the Executive Director at all times and channels of communication are open for free flow of information. |
