    Year established:
Organizational structure: The World Federation for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence will consist of regional federations, agreeing to establish best-practice standards to treat opioid-addicted patients effectively. These regional federations will work to promulgate evidence-based government/public policy around the use of proven and effective pharmacotherapies to treat chronic opioid addiction in their respective countries. At the present time, the two primary regional entities involved in organizing the World Federation for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence include EUROPAD (European Opiate Addiction Treatment Association)and AATOD (American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence). Dr. Icro Maremmani, who serves as the President of EUROPAD would also serve as the President of the World Federation. Mark Parrino, who serves as the President of AATOD, would serve as the Vice President of the World Federation. The governing Board of the World Federation would be composed of representatives from these two primary groups.
Number and type of members: EUROPAD currently has 23 member nations, which would be part of the World Federation, while AATOD represents 28 states in the United States in addition to opioid treatment programs in Mexico. This would incorporate more than 1,200 opioid treatment programs worldwide.
