Organizational structure: The Global Justice Center board of directors provides the organization with governance and support in accordance with the organization’s by-laws. The GJC also has regular audits and since it is registered in New York it is subject to particularly rigorous financial scrutiny given the char-500 process required by the state. Our board members have diverse expertise in sectors of business, human rights and philanthropy, and is chaired by Anny Firth Murray, the founder of the Global Fund for Women. GJC staff is led by President, Janet Benshoof, who has over three decades of experience litigating cases around the world to defend reproductive and equality rights. In 1992 Ms. Benshoof founded the first international human rights organization specializing in reproductive choice and equality, now the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR). In the organization's first ten years, under Ms. Benshoof's leadership, CRR obtained ECOSOC status at the UN, established legal projects in over 40 countries, and won major class action constitutional cases in the United States Supreme Court. The GJC staff brings international law, international policy and reproductive rights experience that informs our work. The GJC legal team is made up of lawyers and researchers who work closely with our partners and networks to execute our legal projects. The development and communications team works with the legal team to identify audiences and strategies for disseminating the GJC’s legal arguments, including to activists, the media, and the donor community.
