Centa for Organizational Development (COD) was conceived in December 2005 as a national gender proportionate & focused non-governmental, non-political, not for profit organization, that seeks to redress the existing in balances in women’s access to credit in Nigeria by offering to the poor and lower middle class mostly women, cost effective and efficient management, leadership, human rights and organizational development trainings necessary to effectively access and manage micro credits & finances. Through these initiatives, the economic, socio - cultural and political rights of more women are promoted and protected in Nigeria. It has since February 2009 been incorporated as a Company limited by Guarantee (Charity) under Pact A of the Company & Allied Matters Act 1990 with registration No. RC 801533 of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria COD’s vision is to remain steadfast and committed to the promotion & protection of women’s economic, socio - cultural and political rights through the provision of broad based human rights, enterprise and organizational development training’s to the poor and lower middle class who constitute over 70% of the country’s population. Our mission is to develop and empower a critical mass of women entrepreneurs 1000 by December 2009 and 5000 by 2012 needed for wealth creation, employment generation and poverty alleviation through training, capacity building, networking and access to micro finance.” OUR GOALS & OBJECTIVES: Poverty free Nigeria where the rights of women and girls are promoted and protected. OUR ACHIEVEMENTS: COD started operations in July 2006 with a micro finance workshop, which had over 60 people in attendance drawn from among the poor and lower middleclass in Lagos. We have since then implemented and participated effectively in the following programs and activities: • Published and presented to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women “Independent Assessment of Nigeria’s implementation of the Twelve critical Areas of Concern of Beijing Platform For Action (BPFA) 2005 to 2009 at the UNCSW54 in New York. • Partnered and Collaborated with the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) during the UNCSW54 to host a side event at Salvation Army titled “BPFA+ 15 Showcasing Best Practices from Lagos State on March 09th 2010 in New York. • Advanced micro credits to 213 members totaling Five Million, Six Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira (N5, 640,000.00) about Forty Two Thousand USD ($42,000USD) from internally generated funds from our directors with about 70% return rate to mostly poor women in the Lagos Sub burbs. We were part of South West gender focused non governmental Organizations currently documenting the Nigerian NGO shadow report that was presented during the UNCSW54 in New York in March 2010. to mention but a few.
