Mission statement:
Journalists Against AIDS (JAAIDS) Nigeria is a media-based non-governmental organisation in Nigeria founded in 1997 and registered under Nigerian law as an Incorporated Trusteeship in 2000. Our mission is to contribute to the prevention, care and control of HIV/AIDS and TB in Nigeria by providing innovative communication interventions that will facilitate positive behavior change to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS. Our vision is a Nigerian society where all persons are able to freely access information, facilities and services on health/HIV and are empowered to utilise these for their personal well-being and sustainable national development. JAAIDS works at national and state levels within Nigeria to reverse the public information, communication, policy and advocacy challenges that have become obstacles to an effective and results-driven response to the TB and HIV epidemics. In its quest to promote a results driven response to the epidemics of HIV/AIDS, and TB; JAAIDS has evolved from a mere media serving NGO to play a lead role in public information, behaviour change communication, capacity building as well as media and policy and advocacy. Our main areas of work include: Promoting treatment advocacy and literacy for TB and HIV/AIDS, Promoting Accountability in the HIV/AIDS response through Media and Community Engagement in Budget Tracking, HIV/AIDS Information Networking (Facilitating media engagement and capacity building as well as creating spaces for dialogue on HIV/AIDS related issues through the Nigeria-AIDS Eforum), Policy Advocacy and Research as well as Stigma Reduction. Under its Advocacy work, JAAIDS also works with members of the African Civil Society Coalition to promote better involvement of African advocates in the regional and international dialogue spaces.
