Human Rights Information Network is a National Network of Non Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations and Civil Societies groups dedicated to sharing ideas, experiences and resources to promote broad access to and effective use of knowledge and information as tools of promoting research and work in the fields of human rights, development, socio-economic and political rights, gender and child rights, environment and consumer rights and freedom of information. Founded in 1997, the HuRINet is supported by the British Council (BC) and the United Nations Information Center (UNIC). Presently, the network has an Organizational membership strength of more than hundred and twenty not-for-profit rights based organizations committed to the protection of human rights and social justice in Nigeria.
The Management Committee
The Management Committee oversees the development of the Network and runs the day-to-day affairs of HURINET. This Committee, Headed by the Chairperson is the highest decision-making body charged with the duty to make substantive decisions about budget expenses, including the allocation of resources for programmes and projects. The Management Committee represents HURINET and approves the work of the Secretariat.
The Management Committee is made up of representatives Nominated by member NGOs and elected on the strength of their individual characters.
Standing Committees/Special Working Groups
The standing committees provide a forum for members to plan and implement activities for the Network. In line with our promise to run an all inclusive network, and involve everybody in the course of executing our activities which lead to the successful holding of our events.
They have a responsibility to monitor Nigeria’s activities and progress on their respective thematic areas and where appropriate advice on a cause of action, propose or design events for the network which shall be implemented by HuRINet
