Mission statement:	The UNESCO Center of Florence is an NGO created in 1971 operating in cultural, social and cooperation for sustainable development field at local and international level; the Center acts to concretize the principles of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Our vision of the World is: “Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defense of peace must be constructed.” (UNESCO CONSTITUTION 1945) and we realize it committing ourselves: “to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information.” (UNESCO CONSTITUTION 1945) Our Goals TO PROMOTE comprehension and cooperation among peoples, through a better knowledge of different civilizations. TO SPREAD awareness of the human rights, such as recognized by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights(1948). TO SUSTAIN Developing Countries communities favoring self-determination through capacity-building. TO SENSIBILIZE to the protection and conservation of the World Heritage, tangible and intangible, knowing that it represents the cultural and natural legacy for all human kind. TO ENCOURAGE the participation of the local community, in particular the youth, to share their traditional values, to participate to the local dynamics through democratic tools, to promote their territory through initiatives, meetings, events and cultural exchange.
