Mission statement:	SmokeFree Foundation was established with the vision of creating a tobacco-free society. Tobacco is the number one cause of preventable diseases and deaths worldwide. It killed 100 million in the 20th century and if no urgent steps are taken and if current trend in tobacco use continue, it may kill 1 billion people this 21st century. SmokeFree Foundation has therefore heeded to the call to action to reduce the tobacco burden. We organize workshops and seminars in schools, educate children and adolescents about the dangers of smoking tobacco, offer support to smokers who intend to quit, conduct advocacy campaigns, establishes smoke free zones, and creatively harness the power of electronic and print media to educate audiences. Big tobacco targets young people in Africa, with over 2,000 teenagers becoming addicted to smoking each day. Emmanuel Odiase who is the founder recently authored Africa¿s first anti-tobacco education book titled: Who¿s the Target?: The Unfiltered Truth, a book now being used to educate children in schools against the use of tobacco. Since inception in 2007, the foundation has reached over a million young men and women with its anti-smoking message. SmokeFree Foundation is a non-governmental Tobacco-Control organization in Nigeria working in line with the United Nations Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) in creating awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco to the general public. This Public Health initiative is aimed at birthing a new social consciousness towards a world free from diseases and deaths caused by the deadly false friend-TOBACCO. The foundation, in a bid to carry out its projects effectively and efficiently through all facets of life set up five sub groups which area: Children/Adolescents As SmokeFree Examples-CASE, a core sub-group that shapes teens' perceptions, making them less vulnerable by instilling in them the positive spirit and weapons needed to combat the challenges of initiation to tobacco smoking which is a gateway to other hard drugs. Another sub-group, Policy Advocacy Campaign against Tobacco-PACT, carries out lobbying and policy campaigns towards establishing ¿smoke-free¿ laws to protect non-smokers from exposure to Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS). SmokeFree Foundation tackles to youth tobacco use through SAY NO-SmokeFree Advocacy Youth Network Organisation , Girls/Women are also well given attention through the sub-group WAIT-Women Action Initiative against Tobacco, While a very important [part of the smokefree campaign is to provide help for smokers already addicted to tobacco and who intend to quit through the sub-group i-QUIT-Smoking Cessation Programme. Some of the objectives of SmokeFreeNigeria are to:- ¿ Educate the public and policy makers about the tobacco problem and its solutions. ¿ Expose and counter tobacco industry efforts to market to children and mislead the public. ¿ Advocate for proven solutions that reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke. ¿ Mobilize organizations and individuals to join the fight against tobacco use. ¿ Empower a tobacco-free generation by fostering youth leadership and activism. ¿ Enhance tobacco prevention efforts worldwide by sharing programs and information with international partners.
