From June 1999, the Cameroonian Councillor, representative across Central Africa of Youth Advisory Council of UNEP (Youth Council for the Environment), shows for the first time in Cameroon, the willingness to create a National Youth Forum on environment. For this purpose and under the recommendations of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, she received a technical and logistical support from the German cooperation’s project for development (GTZ). Gradually, the importance of involving the youth of Cameroon in the fight for the environment was institutionalized. The aim was to confront young Cameroonians in front of to the realities of the destruction of the nature caused by a poor management of natural resources. It also aimed not only to call for a global awareness through advocacy and education but also to empower those citizens who will be the new society actors in the next few years, new decision makers.
After organizing the first National Youth Forum on the Environment in December 1999 which was attended by 150 young people from ten provinces of Cameroon, one of the resolutions adopted was the creation of the national network of young people. This resolution was materialized by the creation of the Green Youth Association of Cameroon with the collaboration of MINEF, GTZ and other partners.
The Green Youth Association of Cameroon , coordinated by Mrs. Marie Nkom Tamoifo gets under way with the contribution of few volunteers and an executive committee is in place. The AJVC was legalized in 2000 and then following the national tour it performs, it has gathered in its midst several members of schools and colleges’ clubs, academics, volunteers and youth’s associations.
AJVC participated in various national and international meetings including the Conference on Ecosystems of the dense rainforests of Central Africa (CEFDHAC), |
