Mission statement:	JASA is one of the largest community-based, voluntary social service agencies serving the aged in the United States. Its mission is to sustain and enrich the lives of the aging in the New York metropolitan area so that they can remain in the community with dignity and autonomy. Since 1968, JASA and its affiliates have provided social, recreational, health, cultural and educational programs for older persons, regardless of their race, religion or ethnicity, to help sustain them in their homes and communities and to offer opportunities for a better quality of life. In the 43 years since its inception, JASA has developed a comprehensive, integrated network of services that provides a continuum of community care. JASA supports family and neighbor care-giving, links those in need to other sources of help, and engages in social policy and legal advocacy. Among JASA’s service divisions are case and group services, housing, legal services, mental health, and homecare. JASA seeks to meet individuals’ needs at all stages of the aging process, to create innovative, outcomes-based programs and, to be the trusted and expert community resource for information, guidance and advocacy on matters concerning older adults. On an annual basis, JASA helps approximately 50,000 older adults, their family members and other concerned individuals throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, and Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Organizational structure:	JASA is a large decentralized agency with comprehensive central services that support the field offices and over 600 staff members. JASA has established a comprehensive managerial/business structure that supports accountable, services delivery. This structure includes transparent, integrated and reciprocal communication between service departments, fiscal services, and the Board of Trustees, continuous services planning and evaluation, a commitment to strategic growth, and opportunities for enhancing staff expertise.
