Mission statement:	Introduction The African Center for Direct Democracy (AFRICEDD) is a Kenyan indigenous NGO, which was founded and registered in Kenya in 2011. This was in response to the frustrations experienced by the Kenyan citizens due to their powerless situation where they had zero say in policy making as well as no platform via which to participate in political decision making. AFRICEDD is a national non-profit and non-partisan organization that was founded on the need and commitment to the enhancement and promotion direct participation of all citizens irrespective of their socio-economic status in political decision making on good governance and leadership issues. AFRICEDD provides an avenue via which citizens can participate in policy formation, formulation, implementation and assessment, all this is realized through facilitating public engagement debates, policy analysis and advocacy, capacity building for community institutions as well as via research and dissemination. AFRICEDD is committed to helping the citizens and the Kenyan leadership nurture a culture of full participation. AFRICEDD believes that all citizens have the right to directly carry out lawmaking and other socio-economic duties in their country. AFRICEDD therefore seeks to organise and facilitate participatory processes, which enable citizens to exercise their political rights, participate in governance and shape state policies. AFRICEDD PHILOSOPHY Civic education and enlightment is of utmost importance as it enables the citizenry to make proper and appropriate decisions on major political and policy issues. Sovereignity resides in the people and they are the only legitimate authority to govern their society. Each and every citizen should have equal rights and opportunities to participate and contribute in issues of national importance. Abstact, unbiased and corrupt free public engagement and dissemination programs are necessary if the citizens are to give honest feed back and selfless contribution. Law making and policy making powers should be vested directly in the People at societal levels. AFRICEDD’s vision A politically mature and active citizenry AFRICEDD’s Mission AFRICEDD’s mission is to entrench Direct Democracy into the main workings of the Kenyan political machinery so that sovereignty finally resides in the people as the citizens take center stage in determining the state’s political pace and direction.
