Organizational structure: |
National Coordinating Organisation for Farmer Associations- The Gambia, is a network of the committee established by farmer organizations in the Gambia, as a body representing Gambian farmers at the West African Regional Network of Farmer’s Organizations ROPPA, whose head office is at Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. ROPPA comprised of representatives from 12 countries (ECOWAS countries), namely: Gambia, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo, Niger, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Benin, Guinea Bissau and Guinea Conakry.
NACOFAG on the other hand is comprised of 11 Gambian farmer organizations, namely: Association of Farmers Educators and Traders (AFET), National Youth Association for Food Security (NaYAFS), National Women Farmer Association (NAWFA), National Farmers’ Platform The Gambia (NFPG), Cashew Growers Association (CGA), Fandema – Upper River Region (Women Wing), Maize Growers Association (MGA), Fish Smokers Association – Tanji (FSA), Livestock Owners Association (LOA), Organization of Gambian Women on Agriculture and Environment – The Gambia (REFESA) and National Association of Food Processors’ (NAFP).
o To promote and defend the values of an efficient and sustainable small-holder agriculture
o To promote solidarity between Farmer Associations in the country and the sub-region
o To provide technical, managerial and resource support to Farmer Associations and their members, for improved production, processing and marketing of high value crops and livestock.
o To promote agro-business activities
o To establish the basis for an organizational network to attract financial and technical assistance from multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors, charitable organizations,
government and non-governmental organizations.
-To promote awareness, good governance, effective leadership and empowerment of member Associations.
-To mobilize community resources for the members to develop their undertakings
-To do all such things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objectives or any of them. |
