Mission statement:	• Carry out voluntary actions in order to: 1- Bridge the gap between science and action in Cameroon and sub-sahara Africa 2- Promote quality human resource/capital as lever for sustainable development CREPD is an NGO based in Cameroon and composed of 02 departments: The department of Education and the department of Environment and Sustainable Development. The latter is in charge of chemicals activities. This department aims to: Increase awareness of the international community and donors on the burden of the unsound management of chemicals in the economy, environment and public health of the population in Sub-Sahara Africa; Undertake capacity-building activities on the safe handling and sound management of chemicals in the wide range of activities in the society; Educate the general public on the impacts of the unsound management of chemicals in the society and environment; Undertake actions to free the environment of urban cities in Cameroon/sub-region from heavy metals and uncontrolled dumping and burning; Update the chemical profile of countries in the sub-region regarding chemicals in products or process in all sectors of the society; Undertake research to provide data on heavy metals in Sub-Sahara Africa. To achieve these missions CREPD took actions to collaborate with national, regional and international institutions or organisations working for the sound management of chemicals. At the national level, the CREPD is working with the National SAICM Focal Point for assessing hazardous chemicals flowing in the informal sector activities in Cameroon. At the international level, although CREPD is a SAICM NGO Focal Point, CREPD is also a member of the Lead and Cadmium Working Group of UNEP/Chemicals. Then, the CREPD is very active in the on-going process regarding the activities of Lead and Cadmium in the UNEP. In fact, CREPD participated from the beginning in the review process of the draft reviews namely “Review of Scientific Information for Lead” and “Review of Scientific Information for Cadmium” of the UNEP, DTIE. This reviewing process lasted more than a year and the consideration and finalization of the draft reviews were carried out during the First meeting of the Working Group held from 18-22 September 2006 in Geneva, Switzerland. CREPD participated actively in this first meeting of the working group of UNEP regarding Lead and Cadmium activities. At the regional level, CREPD has a plan to extend its activities in the main cities in the sub-region.
