Mission statement:
Attac Gabon, the Association for Taxation on financial Transactions and for alternative and Civic Action in Gabon, is a movement of popular education, a non- partisan political organisation made up of young people, students, women, active economic players, trade unionists, etc. whose main aim is to inform the public about broad economic, political and social issues in order to further a general awareness of what is at stake in globalisation. We believe that the world is on offer to us today is not the only one, nor is it the best possible model. Human beings have the right to have free access to basic social services to foster their development: health, education, water, food, etc. and the planet produces enough wealth for all of that. We believe above all that we need to save our world for the generations to come, and that another world is more than necessary! That is why each citizen should be aware and honestly informed about what is happening, so that they may freely say yes or no, and may find other solutions and alternatives. As part of the movement “another world is possible”, which challenges the neoliberal dogmas, Attac Gabon works for citizens to regain their autonomy when faced with maltreatment by lobbies, multinationals and the international political and financial sphere. At the same time, we are working for the cancellation of Third World debt and for grassroots control of public actions; for the abandonment of neoliberal policies imposed by the international financial institutions and for a control of financial taxation; for climate justice on a global scale, the organisation takes action to save and protect the environment. Attac Gabon attempts to promote alternative solutions such as solidarity tourism and fair-trade commerce, and advocates sustainable human development. We further believe that a different Africa is possible, that Africans need to re-invent their style of development beyond imposed illusory policies, by referring in particular to their human and cultural values. Human beings and their needs should be at the centre of thinking on development. Attac Gabon is a member of the trans-national Attac movement which can be found in over 40 countries in both South and North, which firmly believes that another world is possible, and which puts an emphasis on civic alternatives for a sustainable human development. Attac Gabon’s activities are designed and carried out mainly in the context of Gabon, but also support any country in Africa or in the world in which action is deemed to be necessary. The association carries out its activities alone or in cooperation with other associations and institutions, whether public or private, individuals or external groups, whatever form this cooperation might take .
