Mission statement:	Norway`s main goals in UNESCO are the following: - Education for All (EFA) within 2015 - An information society for all - The development of institutions and capacity development in research and higher education in developing countries - Culture for development The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in overall charge of Norwegian foreign affairs, including UNESCO policy. The Ministry of Education and Research co-ordinates UNESCO activities in Norway and is responsible for the Education programme and the Science programme. The Ministry of Culture is in charge of the Culture and Communication programmes, while the Ministry of Environment is responsible for implementing the World Heritage Convention in Norway and for matters of environment within UNESCO`s programme.

Organizational structure:	The National Commission concentrates on giving advice to the Norwegian government in UNESCO-related issues. It is also active in promoting UNESCO`s ideas and in making UNESCO known in the Norwegian society. The current Norwegian National Commission was established during fall 2008 and will be in office until 2012. .
Number and type of members:	The Norwegian National Commission for UNESCO consists of 16 members appointed by the Norwegian government. The 16 members have special skills in at least one of UNESCO`s four disciplines. The National Commission concentrates on giving advice to the Norwegian government in UNESCO-related issues. It is also active in promoting UNESCO`s ideas and in making UNESCO known in the Norwegian society.
