Mission statement:	Adeso works with African communities who are yet to realize their full potential and our vision is an Africa that is not dependent on aid but on the resourcefulness and capabilities of its people. We work at the roots of African communities to create environments in which they can thrive and we work hand-in-hand with local African communities to prevent, manage, and overcome situations that adversely affect their wellbeing – whether environmental, social, economic, or otherwise. We do what’s needed, where it’s needed, working across four program areas: • Developing skills for life and work – Through formal and informal education and skills training, we give young people and adults the skills and knowledge they need to lead more productive and self-sufficient lives. • Providing humanitarian aid – When people’s needs are urgent, we are able to respond promptly and efficiently, very often using a form of aid we pioneered in East Africa – cash transfers. We also help people meet their food security and water needs, and support communities’ safe sanitation and hygiene practices. • Reinvigorating the economy – A strong community needs a strong local economy. We work to strengthen local economies and protect communities from future shocks. • Influencing policy – We advocate on behalf of the communities we work with, giving them a voice on a local and international stage, and ensuring their interests and concerns are considered at the highest level.

Organizational structure:	Adeso has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as a liaison office in Washington DC, USA. We also have nine field offices across South Sudan, Kenya and Somalia. Adeso, formerly known as Horn Relief, is a registered non-profit in Kenya, and a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the USA. We are registered as a charity in England & Wales (no. 1131711) and a limited company registered in England (6412220) under the name Horn Relief, but trading as Adeso. Adeso has three board of directors, one in the UK, USA and Kenya respectively.
