Mission statement:	The Danish Refugee Council is a private independent organisation whose aim is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons from persecution and promote lasting solutions to refugee problems on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC fulfils its mission through: » Advocacy: speaking the cause of conflict-affected people; » Capacity-building: supporting that authorities and conflict-affected people have the capacity to secure, respectively enjoy, the rights of conflict-affected people; » Substitution: providing assistance to conflict-affected people where their rights are not met. The term conflict-affected people refers to refugees, IDPs and host communities in or from the conflict areas of the world. Within Denmark, DRC assists refugees in all aspects of integration as well as asylum procedures. Internationally, DRC participates actively in the general efforts of the international community to protect and promote solutions for conflict-affected populations. DRC is the only organisation of its kind in Europe which covers all aspects of the refugee and displacement cause. DRC has issued a ‘Position Compass’, which elaborates how DRC understands its mission in its actual work in Denmark and in the World.

Organizational structure:	DRC is an umbrella organisation consisting of more than 30 members broadly representing civil society organisations in Denmark committed to the refugee cause. Some of the member organisations are operational in international emergency and development work, while others are not. Membership of the DRC is open to non-party-political, voluntary, nationwide humanitarian and international organisations that work on a democratic basis, and whose aims conform to those of the DRC. The Council The supreme authority of DRC is the Council, which consists of up to three representatives of each member organisation and a total of six representatives of the voluntary groups for refugees that have concluded a co-operation agreement with DRC. The ordinary Council meeting is held once every year before the end of the second quarter. The Executive Committee DRC is headed by an Executive Committee consisting of one Chairman and six members elected by the Council.
