Mission statement:	D.i.Re - Donne in rete contro la violenza- founded on 2008- is the first italian association of non institutional women's shelter based all over Italy, run by NGO’s of women rooted in the feminist movement. It consists of 62 women associations distributed over the whole national territory, they manage centers to help women subjected to violence. The National Association deals with the male violence against women looking at the difference of genre and has the aim to help women to get out from violence supported by specialized operators who work with a gender perspective believing that violence against women is a cultural fact typical of patriarchal societies, involving the dimension of the relation among sexes. Furthermore D.i.Re has the aim to create national political actions to trigger cultural changes in order to trasform the Italian society towards violence as a general phenomenon and it works to strengthen the centers against violence towards women which are on the national territory and their network. D.i.Re has a political role to raise awareness and to promote local, national and international policies according to the needs of women who are subjected to violence. All members of DiRe engage not only in providing all necessary services to women victims of gender violence, but also in working at a social-cultural level to raise awareness on and to prevent gender violence, organizing all sorts of campaigns, participating at local networks, training all sorts of private/public professionals in the social-, health-, judicial- and educational sector and police forces.

Number and type of members:	D.i.Re is composed of 80 italian shelters, managed by women who daily work with and for women victims of gender violence. There are also 17 representatives person of different italian territories and work as spokeperson of the different regional realities in the scope of violence against women in Italy. D.i.Re has also different groups dealing with different important topics about legal, statistical, paychological, operational aspects about violence against women.
