Mission statement:	HelpMeSee, a global nonprofit organization headquartered in New Jersey, is dedicated to alleviating severe visual impairment and blindness caused by cataracts. Our mission focuses on establishing simulation-based surgical training as the leading method for educating surgeons, with the aim of ensuring proficient eye surgery procedures for those in need. Cataracts affect over 100 million individuals worldwide, with the Vision Loss Expert Group (VLEG) reporting that approximately 17 million people were bilaterally blind due to cataracts in 2020, constituting 40% of global blindness cases. Disparities in ophthalmologist density between high-income and low-income nations are evident, with high-income countries averaging 79 ophthalmologists per million compared to as low as 1-2 ophthalmologists per million in some African countries (Resnikoff et al., Br J Ophthalmol. 2020). This shortage of eye health professionals is compounded by an aging population and increasing demand for eye care services. Additionally, 10% of cataract surgeries result in poor outcomes, leading to permanent blindness. Responding to this crisis, the 74th World Health Assembly in May 2021 set a global target of achieving a 30% increase in Effective Cataract Surgical Coverage (eCSC) to address the Traditional training methods, involving practice on animal or artificial eyes before operating on patients, carry inherent risks for patients. HelpMeSee's approach addresses these risks, establishing a higher standard for patient safety in surgical training within medical education. Furthermore, this innovative approach not only addresses the shortage of trained professionals, particularly in underserved regions, but also improves eye care outcomes globally, including in developed countries. We provide full procedural training in cataract surgery and complication management including Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery which is one of the most cost-effective procedures for conservative settings and Phacoemulsification which is the accepted gold standard in the developed countries. Through our initiatives, HelpMeSee aims to prevent millions from experiencing unnecessary vision impairment and blindness. Our efforts extend beyond developing nations, positively impacting eye care outcomes worldwide.
